Formula E is a new FIA racing championship featuring single-seater cars powered exclusively by electricity.
Beginning in September 2014, it will race in the heart of some of the world’s leading cities, such as London, Miami, Beijing, Rio de Janeiro, Berlin, Los Angeles etc.
There are also high profile team founders like Leonardo Di Caprio, Michael Andretti and Alain Prost.
“The future of our planet depends on our ability to embrace fuel-efficient, clean-energy vehicles and I am happy to be a part of this effort”, states di Caprio.
Through entertainment, the championship aspires to drive the change towards the greater use of sustainable mobility, act as a catalyst between companies, leaders, experts, cities and policy-makers, and be a leading force in spreading the idea of the feasibility of an alternative
electric future. From this, the long-term impact of the championship is to significantly accelerate the market penetration of electric vehicles (EVs).
In addition to creating an exciting and competitive racing series, Formula E has two main objectives:
– The first is to become a framework for research and development around the electric vehicle. Battery life and efficiency of electric engines are two fields in which many global corporations are investing vast resources. Technological breakthroughs in these fields will take the electric car to a different level and Formula E would like to become the testing ground for those advances.
– The second is to make people believe in electric cars. One of the biggest issues electric vehicles face is image. Many people think they won’t work for them or will be too slow but we want to show everyone what electric cars can really do, through motorsport, and to help shape perceptions of what is cool and exciting.
Of course, Formula E will be operated as a carbon neutral Championship – the first of its kind – ensuring it offsets all CO2 emissions, as well as encouraging its partners to do the same…not to mention all the fans who watch the races!
ENESSERE Clean Energy Company also believes that to complete the picture the cars should be recharged using electricity from renewable sources.
