The latest Legambiente report states that photovoltaic panels produce 8.1% of the energy that Italy requires.
Even though the number of new installations has decreased, Italy, followed by Greece and Germany, cements its status as leading country in Europe for the impact that solar energy has over the supply needs of 9.1 million Italian families.
There are close to 850.000 active renewable energy systems from north to south of Italy, which in the last 10 years have increased the contribution of green energy from 10% to 35.5% of the national energy consumption. 39 municipalities have already gone totally emissions-free.
This trend makes the use of green energy all the more competitive when compared to traditional energy sources.
