In the “Allegory of Virtue and Vice” by Lorenzo Lotto dated 1505, we see an allegorical scene: a tree divides the painting into two parts, one side dry and the other green and lush.

The dry side shows a drunk Silenus, asleep among the symbols of vice: a valley with a comfortable path, but dark and gloomy, where we can see a forest, a symbol of loss, and a boat sinking in a lake, a symbol of failure.

On the green and lush side is the allegory of Virtue, with a putto playing with a few books (symbols of wisdom) and the symbols of the Liberal Arts (the flute for music, the dial for astronomy, the compass for architecture, the protractor for geometry, the scroll for poetry), in the background a winged putto who is walking a difficult road, steep and uphill, but rewarded by the heavenly vision, illuminated by amazing flashes and the presence of … ENESSERE Hercules Wind Generator.
